5 DAY GARDEN ROUTE – CAPE TOWN TO PORT ELIZABETH

Day 1: Cape Town to Oudtshoorn
 We depart Cape Town and take the scenic R62 route, through the very beautiful Karoo. Take in the sights of majestic mountain ranges and deep valleys before we reach the charming town of Barrydale, well-known for its eccentric restaurants and people, for lunch. We overnight in a guestfarm just outside Oudtshoorn in the foothills of the Swartberg, South Africa’s second highest mountain range. Various antelope are to be seen on the property.
Day 2: Oudtshoorn There is so much to see in this beautiful area, that an extra day in Oudtshoorn is worth it. Today we take a scenic drive through Meiringspoort, including a short walk to a waterfall. Meiringspoort is a road through a very steep valley, and geologists regard the mountains as one of the best examples of sandstone rock folding in the world. We travel on to Prince Albert, a tiny and charming Karoo village for lunch, before returning to Oudtshoorn, where some free time for shopping or looking at some historical sites is available. Included: Breakfast and lunch.
Day 3: Oudtshoorn to Knysna After visiting the impressive Cango Cave system and a tour of an ostrich farm, we depart towards the coast, via the Outeniqua Pass towards the popular coastal town of Knysna. After some free time to enjoy shopping on the waterfront, we’ll embark on a sunset boat ride on the beautiful lagoon.
Our guesthouse is in town, within walking distance from the waterfront.
Included: Breakfast, entry fees to Cango Caves, Ostrich farm tour.
Day 4: Knysna to Port Elizabeth
We continue to Port Elizabeth on the coastal section of the Garden Route. We will enter the Tsitsikamma National Park, where we can enjoy a walk through indigenous forest before lunch.
We should reach Port Elizabeth in the late afternoon.
Included: Breakfast, entry fees.
Day 5: Port Elizabeth – Addo Elephant National Park / Township and city tour The world famous Addo Elephant National Park offers the best sightings of large elephant herds in the country. A full day excursion to the reserve is a must for anybody visiting Port Elizabeth.
If the group has already done a safari activity, a historical city and township tour is an alternative, with some free time to enjoy the waterfront area in Port Elizabeth.
Included: Breakfast, Addo tour and entry / city or township tour.
Cost: R5 900p.p. (2009) R6 500p.p. (2010) including meals and activities as mentioned in the itinerary.
